Leading gold businessman T.S.Kalyanaraman said that the gold jewellery industry is going through many problems and collective action is necessary to overcome the crisis. He said that Thrissur has the most prominent position in the country in the field of gold trade and government level assistance is essential.
Kalyanaraman was inaugurating the jewelery conclave and the reception given to the newly elected national leaders of All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council, Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council under the leadership of All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association.

Born in Koduvally in Kozhikode district, Surendran entered the gold business after his schooling. Worked from unit level as association member.
He has held the posts of District General Secretary, State Council Member, State Acting General Secretary, State General Secretary and State Advisory Committee Chairman. He is working as the Vice Chairman of the Jewelery Exhibition conducted by the Association.
He has also held the posts of Director of Kerala Jewellery Workers Welfare Board and Director of Kerala Minimum Wages Act.
He was the chief organizer of the Onam gold festival, which was attended by 4700 gold traders in Kerala.
State Council meeting held in Thrissur approved the dismissal of Dr. B. Govindan and elected Surendran as the President, General Secretary Adv.S.Abdul Nazar informed.
